Menoken Indian Village State Historic Site

When this site was inhabited in the early 1200s it consisted of approximately thirty partly sunken, earth covered houses on the flat prairie, protected by the steep banks of a loop of Apple Creek and ditches and a palisade on the other sides. Most likely the site was a semi-permanent base and a transition step from hunting-gathering to hunting- gardening as was the practice of the Mandan who inhabited the area when the first Europeans arrived.

Although it's hard to see the ditches and outlines of the houses, some are obvious as you walk/roll around the site. There are several interpretive signs and a CCC era kiosk with information and brochures. 

The site is not accessible due to the uneven ground and thick grass.  

The parking area is large enough for any vehicle. Village    46.841, -100.51851
